During my time at Social Pantry, I had the privilege of being involved in some incredible projects, including one particularly memorable event at Dulwich Picture Gallery. While this event wasn’t solely mine, I’m proud to have provided key creative input that helped shape its unique look and feel.

The goal was to design a dining experience that was both visually stunning and sustainable. Given creative freedom, I was inspired by the bold red walls of the venue and Social Pantry’s commitment to sustainability. I wanted to break away from the usual white linens and green foliage used at the gallery, so I crafted a design that was both daring and unconventional.

I worked with a striking palette of red, orange, and lilac, which added vibrancy and energy to the setting. Silver cutlery and gold chairs introduced a touch of elegance, while the lilac table and floristry enhanced the overall warmth and richness of the design. My intention was to draw attention not to the individual place settings but to the entire length of the table, ensuring it became the centrepiece within the historic Sloane Gallery.

Florals in shades of red, orange, and lilac played a pivotal role in bringing the design to life, while symmetry was introduced through carefully placed canapé stations, balancing the table’s visual weight. In keeping with the sustainable ethos, we incorporated seasonal fruits, and guests were even given ingredients to make their own grapefruit and orange marmalade, ensuring nothing went to waste.

While I might have tweaked some elements — perhaps opting for a different shade of lilac for the napkins — I remain incredibly proud of this bold design. It pushed creative boundaries and sparked conversation, proving that sustainability and bold aesthetics can go hand-in-hand.

This project reaffirmed my passion for exploring the world of design through colour and innovation. I’m constantly driven to craft narratives that leave a lasting impact, and I’m excited to keep pushing creative boundaries in future projects.
