St Etheldreda's Church / Old Sessions House
06.06.2026
Overview
Gwyneth and Drew's June wedding had everything I look for in a London celebration — a historic church, red Routemasters through Clerkenwell, and a party that kept building right up to the one o'clock curfew.
The morning began at Kettner's in Soho, where both of them got ready before the short journey to St Etheldreda's — one of the oldest Catholic churches in England, tucked away on Ely Place. After a flower-stem send-off on the street outside, 149 guests boarded vintage Routemaster buses for the ten-minute ride to Old Sessions House.
From there the day moved through the building the way I always hope it will: drinks and canapés on arrival, dinner across the Great Room and Showroom, then everyone downstairs for espresso martinis and dessert while we flipped the room above them. When they came back up, the band was ready and the first dance went straight into a full dance floor.

A Ceremony at St Etheldreda's
Gwyneth and Drew exchanged vows at St Etheldreda's Church on Ely Place — a hidden 13th-century gem and one of the oldest Catholic churches in England, just minutes from the reception. The ceremony ran to thirty-five minutes, and as the couple stepped out, guests lined the street for a flower-stem toss in place of confetti.
Routemasters to Clerkenwell
Straight after the flower toss, guests boarded two vintage Routemaster buses waiting outside the church for the ten-minute journey to Old Sessions House — the ride through Clerkenwell becoming part of the celebration itself. Gwyneth and Drew stayed behind for a short portrait moment before following in a classic London taxi.
Drinks, Speeches and Dinner Across Two Rooms
At Old Sessions House, drinks and canapés flowed from half past five, with speeches — Gwyneth's dad first, then the couple together — held before dinner so everyone could relax into the meal. Dinner was served across the Great Room and the Showroom, with Spook London behind the food and 149 guests seated between the two rooms.
The Room Flip
At quarter past eight, guests were invited downstairs for a dessert station, espresso martinis and cocktails — and while they were gone, we cleared the dining tables, built the stage and turned the Great Room into a party space. Ninety minutes of work, invisible to every guest in the building.
The Fellas, Then the DJ
When guests came back upstairs the band was ready, and the first dance went straight into a live set from The Fellas. At eleven the room shifted again — darker, club-style lighting and a DJ through to the one o'clock finish, with late-night food passed through the dance floor rather than parked on a station.
